A cold plunge reliably improves mood and perceived energy for several hours. That part of the evidence is solid and reproducible. The hypertrophy story is where it gets messy: post-lifting immersion blunts the inflammatory signal that helps drive adaptation.

Temperature between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius for two to three minutes is where nearly all the mood and autonomic benefits show up. Colder and longer does not appear to add much beyond bragging rights.
